History of Nanded


Nanded district had much more importance in history of Maharashtra. Nanded is known as a district of Sunskrit Poet. It is situated on " Indian Southern Ganga Godavari river ".From the ancient period Nanded is a important place. It is said that Lord Rama has passed out from here. The name Nanded had closely related to dynasty of Nanda’s and southern boundry of his empire. The dynasty of Satvahan, Wakatak, Badamis, Chalukya had little more concern with Nanded. The dynasty of Rastrakhut nearly influened to Nanded and its area. Kandhar had the capital city of Rastrakhut regime. They had constructed many temples in Kandhar area. During the period of Kalynis, Nanded was prosperous in art. We find temple and Shilalekh around the Nanded.

  

Thinking about Nanded of middle age the starting of fourteenth century. The political situation of south India changed. Turk Sultan, Allaudin Khilji conquered Vidarbha including Nanded . 
After Khilji, Tughalkas started their rule, third attack had done by Tuglak on Warangal. He went there via Nanded and Kandhar . In those period Nanded having a learning centre. Various temples of Gods & Goddesses crowded the surroundings of Kandhar. In Kandhar there were temples of Shiv, Vishnu, Vinayak etc. 
The honor of changing Kandhar into a big Islamic centre goes to the Sufis of 14th century Bahamanis regime in south but their contact with Nanded had very least after collapsing of Bahamani in 1482 AD. In south there were came out five states. Nanded and Kandhar came under ruling of Bidar.The tenth spiritual leader of the Sikh Shri Guru Govind Singh arrived at Nanded in 1708 . He preached amongst the sinkhs that there need not any spiritual leader of them and they should take Guru Granthsaheb as their leader.A monument and Gurudwara has been constructed at place where he breathed his last. If is known as Shri Huzur Abchalnager Sanchkhand Gurudwara. After 1725 it had became part of Nizam Kingdom and it continued till the happening of police action. With Mathawada getting freedom it formed part of the bilingual Bombay State and eventually the part of the State.
